— As of 27/10 applications have closed. There are many ways you can be involved in Crumble beyond the team. Keep an eye out on social media for updates regarding meetings and open calls. —

Crumble is an inter-disciplinary architecture magazine, based out of ESALA at the University of Edinburgh. We aim to provide a platform for discussion around a wide-range of topics concerning the built environment that surrounds us. As a ~annual publications, these topics develop over the course of the year into articles, illustrations, interviews, poems and stories, culminating in a 50-page, carefully considered publication. Our sixth issue, ‘Rules of Play’, built on the successes of our first 5 issues and launches later this month.

As Crumble continues and team members progress through their education we are looking to recruit some new team members. Diversity in approach is a key part of our magazine, and this is reflected by our current team, who have backgrounds in all sorts of departments across the university. As we look to grow the magazine further we would love to build on this and involve students from a range of subject areas.

We are looking for new members to fill four positions:

  • Content Editors – Content editors are at the heart of Crumble’s discussions and help develop the issue’s them, work directly with contributors and prepare articles for publication. The role requires a small bi-weekly commitment and during our period of more intensive production early in semester 2 a few hours a week to edit articles. We anticipate that we will recruit 2 content editors.
  • Chief Illustrator – As chief illustrator you will be responsible for producing graphics for posters, social media and the magazine. The role requires a small weekly commitment and a more significant commitment during semester 2 as the magazine is designed and prepared for printing. Experience producing work for RISO printing would be beneficial but not essential. We would be interested in seeing examples of work for this position.
  • Designer – As a designer you will work closely with the editor-in-chief and designer-in-chief to assist with the design and publication of the magazine. We expect this role would be well suited to an individual in the former years of their education and hence do not expect them to have any specific experience, however a good eye for detail would certainly be beneficial.

All of these roles offer the opportunity to be part of an exciting ongoing project which was awarded STACK ‘Student Magazine of the Year’ in 2017 and is distributed to prominent suppliers across the globe. Whilst we are looking for candidates to full fill  quite specific roles, the range of activities taken on by the magazine mean you will have a chance to develop experience in a diverse range of sectors and contribute your skills to the operation of the magazine and beyond. You would also be part of a fun team of students engaged in sharing ideas and opinions on a subject area that is of relevance to us all in our everyday lives.

If you are interested in any of the advertised roles, please get in touch at or through our social media for more information and to arrange to come in for a chat in the weeks ahead! We are looking to fill these roles quickly, so please do not hesitate in making contact if you are interested. Alternatively, if you are intrigued by Crumble but don’t think that joining the editorial team is for you, be sure to check out our website, come to the launch of our 6th issue, or follow us on social media for the latest updates on how you can be part of Crumble. We are always looking for new contributors with ideas for articles, creative writing, illustrations, or anything else and we’d love to hear from you!
